EAR Combat Arms: Setting the Standard for Hearing Protection

  • Technology protects against impulse noise
  • Allows clear hearing in the absence of impulse noise
  • Utilizes comfortable UltraFit® tips
  • Available in 2 sizes with the Medium size fitting most people

Used by NATO and the U.S. Military the Combat Arms offer a revolutionary step forward in shooter's Hearing Protection products. Built on the immensely successful Combat Arms Double End Shooter's ear plugs which have set the standard for military shooter's ear plugs for a decade. The ISL non linear ear-plugs are designed specifically for use in a combat environment to provide situational awareness and protect against high level of peak impulse noise from small arms and artillery weapons fire. The subjective attenuation measurements against continuous noise are carried out in accordance with EN352-2:2002 whilst the peak impulse noise protection is assessed and reported by the Institute of St. Louis against an internal military test protocol.

Full details of the attenuation measurements are shown below.

The SNR and HML values are: H = 20, M = 11, L = 6     SNR = 15

At 110dB the ISL plug reduces the peak noise level by approximately 8dB, this rises to 25dB at a peak pressure of 190dB. To ensure the peak sound level effective to the ear remains below the Peak Exposure Limit Value of 140dBC, it is recommended the product be restricted to a maximum external level of 155dBC peak.

These ear plugs combine the benefits of dual, user selectable protection into a single end, low profile ear plug that lets you switch easily from constant NRR 23 protection to NRR 7 variable noise protection for situational awareness plus instantaneous protection from dangerous noise, without the need to remove the Ear Plugs from the ear.

Equipped with a toggle valve that is easily operated by touch while in the ear. No need to remove, reverse and reinsert these Ear Plugs to switch from solid to variable noise protection. Now you can simply touch the toggle valve to close it for solid NRR 23 Protection or touch on the edge to open the toggle valve, letting you enjoy NRR 7 variable noise protection. With the valve open, the built in acoustic filter lets you hear virtually everything around you for excellent situational awareness, then, when a loud noise strikes the acoustic filter, the plugs instantly and automatically increase in acoustic resistance, providing you with the protection you need against dangerously loud sounds including impulse noise from small arms fire, arc flash from a welding rig, jackhammers on a construction site, or even the noise of a table saw or nail gun. Made specifically to meet the demanding challenges faced by military operatives, also have a very broad range of applications across the civilian, police, and military operations spectrum.  The US Marine Corps recently announced a procurement bid for 50,150 pairs of the Combat Arms.

Cleaning & Disinfecting

These earplugs are reusable and should be cleaned with mild soap and warm water only. Allow to dry at room temperature. Do not immerse the rocker switch assembly in water as this can clog the filter. Do not use alcohol or other disinfectant as these may damage the earplugs. Do not use heat to dry the product. Hard plastic parts may be wiped clean. Discard the product immediately if there is any sign of damage.

Fit Checking

Choose smallest size that provides good seal and secure fit, but large enough that the outer flange seal ear canal at ear canal entrance. One quick and easy fit check is the pump test. The seal can be tested by gently pumping the plug in and out of the ear canal, while the rocker switch is in the Closed Mode position. When a proper acoustic/pneumatic seal is present, the pumping motion will cause the pressure changes in the ear which the wearer should be able to detect. They will be much less noticeable or totally absent while the rocker
switch is in the Open Mode position. If no difference can be detected between the Open/Closed Modes the plug is probably not sealing the ear. Additionally, the users voice should sound louder and deeper when they speak or hum.
